Bullying: Be Kind, Stay Safe, and Speak Up
Bullying is when someone hurts another person on purpose. It can happen anywhere — at school, online, or even at work when people grow up. There are many kinds of bullying, and it’s important to know how to stay safe and be kind.
1. School Bullying
This is when kids at school tease, push, hit, or hurt other kids on purpose. Some kids might get pushed into lockers, tripped in the hallway, or made fun of in front of friends. School bullying can make kids feel sad, scared, or alone. It’s never okay to hurt someone, even if you don’t like them. It’s okay to not like someone, but you should never bully them because of it.
2. Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying happens online or on phones. This can include sending mean messages, posting embarrassing pictures, or telling someone to hurt themselves. Cyberbullying can be just as harmful as bullying in real life. Remember the rule: Stop, Block, Tell. Stop replying to mean messages, block the person who is being mean, and tell a trusted adult.
3. Workplace Bullying
Even grown-ups can experience bullying. At work, someone might be treated unfairly, yelled at, or made fun of by co-workers or bosses. Workplace bullying is serious, and adults can get help from HR or support services to keep themselves safe.
4. Physical Bullying
Physical bullying is when someone hurts another person’s body. This could be hitting, kicking, or pushing someone into a locker at school. Physical bullying is never okay and can have serious consequences. In some cases, people who do this can even get in trouble with the law.
Why It’s Important to Speak Up
If you see bullying or experience it, it’s important to tell a trusted adult — a parent, teacher, support worker, or counselor. Bullying can be stopped if someone speaks up. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
