November is a month for remembering, celebrating, and looking ahead. As the days get colder
and the holiday season gets closer, we begin to think about spending time with family and
friends, enjoying community events, and finding ways to make the season special. It is also a
time to remember those who served our country, celebrate the people who make our
communities stronger, and think about how we can help everyone feel safe, valued, and included.
In this issue of The Kamloops Self Advocate Newsletter, we look ahead to the holidays with
information about Christmas events in Kamloops. The Downtown Kamloops Santa Claus Parade
takes place on November 22, and Cirque Musica’s Holiday Wonderland comes to Sandman
Centre in December. Planning ahead can help us find activities we enjoy, connect with others,
and make happy memories.
November is also a time to pause and remember. On Remembrance Day, November 11, we
honour veterans and service members and recognize the sacrifices they and their families have
made.
We also look at issues that affect people’s everyday lives. National Housing Day on November
22 reminds us that everyone deserves a safe, accessible, and affordable home. Housing can
support independence, choice, and a sense of belonging. Our articles on self-advocacy and
community inclusion remind us that everyone deserves a voice and the chance to make decisions
about their own lives.
This issue also shares information about diabetes awareness, online safety, kindness, and
compassion. You will find stories about people and organizations helping make our community
more inclusive.
