Welcome to the September 2026 edition of
the Kamloops Self Advocate Newsletter!
This month, we proudly celebrate the beginning of our 13th year
of publishing. Since September 2013, our newsletter has focused
on disability awareness, self-advocacy, community inclusion,
kindness, compassion, and sharing the voices and stories of
people with disabilities.
When the newsletter first launched, it started as a print newsletter
and did not have an online edition. Over the years, it has grown
into a disability-focused media platform with both print and
online content, allowing us to share more stories, interviews,
resources, and awareness information.
What makes the Kamloops Self Advocate Newsletter different
from other media in Kamloops and BC is that we are a specialized
disability-focused publication. We focus on disability voices,
lived experiences, accessibility, success stories, resources, mental
health, recreation, entertainment, and important topics that are
often missing from mainstream media.
Over the years, we have connected disability awareness with community life by covering events
and celebrations. Our Halloween and Community Inclusion Month coverage has featured
inclusive Halloween ideas, traditions, and attractions such as Boo at the Moo at Blackwell Dairy
Farm, Big Little Science Centre Halloween events, The Black Mountain Haunted House,
Halloween Market YYJ, and Haunting of Falkland.
